GATE 2024: Exam Date, Notification, Syllabus and Registration

GATE is one of the most competitive examinations conducted in our nation. The examination is conducted primarily to test the comprehensive knowledge of young aspirants in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Science. By performing well in the examination, candidates get admission to the top colleges of the nation for doing Master’s programmes and to get subjected to other major recruitments by the Public Sector Undertakings. On behalf of the National Coordination Board, the GATE examination is jointly conducted by the seven Indian Institutes of Technology, which are at Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai, Roorkee and Indian Institute of Science at Bengaluru. Yearly, either of these seven IITs conducts the examination on a rotational basis. 

The GATE examination is usually conducted every year in January or February. A total of 29 papers have to be covered to win the GATE exam. The examination will be a Computer-based Test (CBT), where the individual candidate has to solve Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. Once the candidate wins in cracking all these questions, they will get admitted to the prestigious institutions of our nation. The level of competition for this examination is so high. Nearly 8.5 lakh students appear for the examination every year. So in order to crack the examination, candidates have to follow the GATE syllabus very carefully. 

Important Dates of the GATE Examination 2024

In 2024, the GATE examination will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.

Eligibility Criteria of the GATE 2024 

The eligibility criteria of the GATE 2024 will be formally announced on the official site. Candidates have to check the website regularly to learn the eligibility that they need to meet to appear in the examination. It is important to ensure that every criterion, that is, age limit, educational qualification, nationality and other main factors, are met by the candidate before submitting the application form on the website. It is compulsory for the candidates appearing for the examination to hold one of the undergraduate degrees while applying for the GATE 2024 examination. Students in the third or final years of their undergraduate programme can also appear for the examination. Graduates who have degrees in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce or arts from a recognised university approved by the government are eligible to attend the GATE 2024 examination.
